The story of Les Misérables was the inspiration behind this piece. I took a class in colored pencil and needed a worthy subject matter. After watching the 2012 musical version of this beloved story, I was drawn by its message of redemption. When I found the picture of Hugh Jackman in costume as Jean Valjean, I knew it was the subject matter I needed. The original work of art was featured in the 87th Regional Michigan Exhibition in the Muskegon Museum of Art in 2015.
